This is the perfect vase for the scholar desk with central medallions decorated with books, scrolls, go board, calligraphy paraphernalia and a large vase of flowers, interspersed with a field of cherry blossoms embedded in what is referred to as cracked ice. There is a nice reign mark but I cannot attest to the piece being of the period. It is being sold as a beautiful decorative object. The vase measures 7" tall, 2 1/2" across the foot and 3 1/2" widest at the shoulder. The c ...click for details

This brush is a nice companion to the previously-listed enameled brush with dragons since it has the Phoenix interwoven into the handle. Scrolls and lotus flowers are also incorporated into the overall design. The brush head appears to be bone or possibly horn and the bottom button is bronze. The brush measures 15" long and is in excellent condition.

Chinese Natural Root Form Brushpot. This is an excellent example of a natural form being used in a Chinese scholar object. The natural contours and indentations of the root base used for the pot make for a dynamic and interesting shape, bringing excitement to the scholar table. The pot stands 6” tall and measures 4” across the base. The patina is particularly intact and attractive. The condition is very good.

Chinese Black Glazed Ceramic Figural Incense Burner. The jet-black glaze of this piece is dramatic (and hard to capture in the photos). I believe the figure is the Bodhisattva, or Daruma in Japanese lore, sitting in contemplative repose on a rock outcrop which forms the base of the two-piece incense burner. The burner stands 6” tall, and measures 6” at the widest point and 3” by 5” at the base. The condition is very good with a glaze loss on the back (seen in the photo) and a very minor chip ...click for details

Chinese Dehua Blanc de Chine Guanyin. This large Blanc de Chine Guanyin stands an impressive 14 ½” and dates to the mid-19th century. The pictures do more justice than words. Her condition is good with two small flakes along the edge of her flowing garment and a repaired right thumb seen in the next-to-last photo enlargement. There are several kiln cracks and adhesions that also show clearly in the photos. She embodies all the serenity one looks for in the goddess of compassion.

Chinese RARE "Red" Dehua Qing Figure of Putai. "Red" Dehua is a rare variation of the usual ivory-white "Blanc de Chine" style of Dehua porcelain glaze, the color of which looks like polished wood. This piece has added interest in that it is signed on the inside bottom back. The inscription reads "chen hua zi zao" which includes a family name (chen), "flower seed" (hua zi), and "made by" (zao)". Putai is the well known Lohan (A ...click for details
