This is a fabulous piece of folk art combining a rather crude carving technique with an expressiveness missing from more refined "art". This Daruma surely carries the weight of the world and many potential lost souls on his shoulders. He stands an impressive 14" tall and measures 6" across the base. He has a nice patina and wonderful old surface. The condition is excellent.

Okinawan Ceramic Bowl w/Blue and White Decoration. This delightful piece is decorated with a series of stencil-printed dots that make a dynamic design, especially on the back of the bowl. I have only ever seen one other example and that was in the Ethnographic Museum collection of Japanese art at the University of British Columbia. The bowl measures 2 ½” tall, 5” across the top and 1 ¾” across the base. There are five spur marks on the inside. The condition is excellent.

Japanese Oribe Tokkuri or Sake Flask. This traditional form of sake container has the patina of age with a stained, crackled glaze with under-glaze brown decoration and Oribe-green glaze draping the top. The greenish glaze has some very desirable blue streaking as seen in several of the photo enlargements. The decorations are stylized but appear to represent lattice fencing along the top and several Zen forms of a lozenge inside a lozenge and circle, or wheel perhaps, inside a circle.
