This is a wonderful and whimsical pottery lime pot, the country of origin of which I am not certain. I suspect Indonesian but it could be Cambodian or even Vietnamese. If someone knows for sure and is willing to share, please let me know. The glaze is a subtle green-blue celadon with a pronounced small-to-medium crackle. There are buff flushes of color along the shoulder under the glaze which I assume is the clay showing through. This lovely pachyderm stands 5" tall and stretches 5 1/2 ...click for details

This is an enigmatic piece that I think is an ink tray for use in calligraphy with prepared liquid ink. It's the perfect shape and design for such an application. The dish is leaf-shaped with a lizard crawling over the leaf edge. The glaze is a beautiful green-blue with dark, iron-like speckles. There is an interesting unread script signature on the bottom. The piece is 7" long by 4" wide and stands 1 1/2" high. The condition is excellent...several glaze drips have been ...click for details

I am normally attracted to older objects based on design and a sense of age given through wear and patina. I was drawn to this newer scholar object more by the incredibly artistic use of surface and internal color and design in the wood. It is sculpture more than useful object. I do not know about Chinese exotic hardwoods so I will leave it to the learned collector to make that call. The brush pot stands 5" tall and 4" across the bottom. The condition is excellent.

This charming little tea scoop appeals on several levels, to those with an interest in slightly different tea implements and to the Daruma collector. The simple background of the bamboo scoop is a wonderful frame for the dramatically carved Daruma and the association between tea and Daruma is central to the Japanese tea culture. The piece measures 6" by 2" and is in excellent condition except for a small age crack on the back top seen in the last photo. If you are looking for more t ...click for details

This ceramic brazier or te-abori (handwarmer) takes the shape of a yawning Daruma, the monk who brought Zen Buddhism to Japan. He is seen here in a gaping yawn after awakening from his nine years of meditation. The body of the brazier is glazed in a rich mottled brown with random splotches of white Hagi-like glaze. There are two katakana letters on the base that are unread. The piece measures 7" by 7" by 8 1/2" high and is in excellent condition.
